About
Alana Wesley (she/her) is a Sydney/Eora based multidisciplinary artist primarily working between video , sculpture and installation. Her socially engaged works explore ritualism and objecthood. Taking on the role of a quasi artist-anthropologist, Wesley has a particular fascination with people; from Elvis impersonators , to furby collectors, to baseball players, to your everyday romantic. Wesley investigates the scope of their routines, beliefs and material cultures to create projects that give people a window into their respective worldviews.
Inspired by theatre sets, another aspect of Wesley’s practice are her installations. Within these environments, visual puns collide with electric kitsch; the most overlooked of detritus becomes both curious and holy and the most abject of scenes can trigger memories as warmly nostalgic as they are horrifying.
Alana finished her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the UNSW Art & Design in 2015 and completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) at the Sydney College of the Arts in 2016. She has exhibited in spaces such as MOP, Articulate, Verge Gallery and Airspace in Sydney as well as internationally in London and New York.
